Botanic information
Leaf: The drooping pinnate leaves have 3 to 6 pairs of oblong to narrow lanceolate glossy green leaflets that are up to 230mm (9in) long. The petiole is short and the apex is acuminate. The new leaves are limp in pendant tassels and are bronze-orange at first before gaining chlorophyll.

Flower: The flowers have a tubular calyx with 4-unequal petal-like lobes and long whisker-like exserted stamens. They are mainly male with a few bisexual flowers arranged in an axillary paniculated corymb. The petal-less flowers are fragrant at night and appear from late winter to early spring.

Note
The colour is yellow-orange deepening to red as they age and the inflorescence may appear directly from the branches or twigs. The flowers may appear in a second bloom during autumn but in tropical regions the flowering and fruiting period may vary.

Fruit: The oblong reddish-brown 2-valved leathery flattened pod has thickened margins and contains seeds that are up to 40mm (1?in) long.
