Propagation
Sow seed when ripe on finely chopped sphagnum and keep moist, maintaining a temperature of 25ºC (77º F). Remove pulp prior to sowing.
Botanic information
Leaf: The pinnate fronds have long-linear dark green leaflets to 450mm (18in) with an acute apex. They are arranged in an upright "V" shape along the rachis and the petiole is short on mature fronds forming a tight rounded crown.
Flower: The inflorescence appears below the crownshaft enclosed in 2-thin deciduous bracts. It has a short peduncle that clasps the stem and a short rachis.
The small flowers are arranged in the lower branches in threes 2-male and 1-female.
In the upper part of the inflorescence a pair or a solitary male flowers are found.
The male flower has imbricate sepals, small petals and contain up to 30-stamens. The larger female flower has imbricate sepals and petals and contains a single ovary.
The flowering period is from late spring to summer but can vary in tropical regions and they may appear throughout the year.
Fruit: The orange-yellow ovoid drupe has an apical stigmatic scar and a thick exocarp. The seed has a ruminate endocarp and have a short viability period but germinate readily.
