Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º to 64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification.


Botanic information
Leaf: The new pinkish pinnate leaves appear in limp tassels and has 2 to 6 elliptical-lanceolate leaflets that are covered in fine pubescence. The short petiole and branchlets are also covered in brown tomentose. The mature leaves droop over the flowers in direct light to protect them and lift as the sun passes.

Flower: The crimson tubulate flowers have 4 to 5 petals that form an expanded tube with exserted stamens that are united at the base and accompanied with colourful bracts. They are arranged in a dense pompon-like spike that appears on the branches or trunk, normally hidden feom alte spring to early summer.

Fruit: The flat-oblong woody legume has a pointed apex and appears pendant from the branch or trunk on a short peduncle and contains several large seeds.
