Propagation
Sow fresh seed and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F).
Division of the clump (rhizome) during spring with 3 to 4 canes planted in a sandy medium and placed in a humid position to establish, then plant out or plant in situ in warm climates.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green leaves are narrow-elliptical to narrow-obovate and are up to 127mm (5in) wide. The apex isacuminate and the base is a tubular closed sheath.
Flower: The small tubulate flowers have 3-tubular calyx lobes and 3-corolla lobes that are yellow. The flowers are arranged in a spindle-shaped spike that consists of imbricate reddish bracts and is held above the foliage on a leafy scape during summer.
Fruit: The capsule contains small seeds that are not commonly seen and the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
