Propagation
Sow fresh seed from autumn to spring in pots and in cold climates place in a cold frame.

Semi-hardwood tip cuttings taken during summer apply bottom heat.
Air layering during the growing period.


Botanic information
Leaf: The deflexed juvenile leaves are narrow-linear up to 1m (3ft) long by 20mm (µin) wide with sharp serrated margins and a yellowish mid rib.

The mature leaves are simple or trifoliate with linear-oblong or lanceolate leaflets up to 40mm (1?in) wide with a petiole, up to 20mm (µin) long. The margin is entire to serrate and the apex is obtuse to acute. They have a dull dark green upper surface and the lower surface is pale green.

Note
The leaves go through 4-stages from ovate seedlings to pendant narrow-linear second stage then as the plant branches it produces erect shorter linear leaves. The variable mature leaves are simple or compound.

Flower: The tiny male and female stellate flowers are composed 5-petals sometimes 4 with as many stamens and have 4-5 separate styles with an ovary with 4-5 cells. They are arranged in a terminal compound umbel that is up to 100mm (4in) wide and are rarely seen. They appear on different trees (dioecious) during midsummer.

Fruit: The fleshy globose drupe has 4 to 5 pyrenes. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
