Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F).
Soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring and semi hardwood cuttings taken during late summer.
Air layering during the growing period.
Botanic information
Leaf: The large sessile mid-green oblong to broad ovate leaves are up to 160 mm (6¥ in) long by 100 mm (4 in) wide with prominent pale green longitudinal veins on the upper surface. The apex is acuminate and the leaves are arranged in opposite pairs along the brittle woody stems.
Flower: The small 5-petaled pale pink to cherry-red cyathiform flowers have 8-10 stamens with elongated yellow anthers and are up to 10 mm (? in) wide. They have a pinkish pedicle and are arranged in a terminal conical pendant panicle that is up to 255 mm (10 in) long and have a reddish peduncle. They appear from spring to early summer amongst the foliage.
Fruit: The small berry is up to 7 mm (¥ in) in diameter and is pinkish-purple and matures to bluish black. It is crowned by the persistent calyx lobes and contains numerous tiny seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
