Division of the clump (rhizome) during early spring and place in a warm humid environment.


Botanic information
Leaf: The variegated leaves are oval to sub orbicular with an obtuse apex and petiole is up to 150 mm (6 in)long. The upper surface is glossy dark green with whitish bands between the main lateral veins. The underside is pale green and the margins are undulating.

Flower: The paired tubulate flowers are arranged in dense cylindrical spike that is accompanied by sheathed bracts up to 90mm (3½in) long. The irregular flowers have 3-sepals and a 3-parted tubular corolla with a 3-celled inferior ovary. The flowering period is during summer but may vary in tropical climates.

Fruit: The small capsule contains 3-seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively. The fruiting period may vary in tropical climates.
