Propagation
Sow fresh seed and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F).

Division of the clump (rhizome) during spring with 3 to 4 canes planted in a sandy medium and placed in a humid position to establish, then plant out or plant in situ in warm climates.


Botanic information
Leaf: The mid green narrow lanceolate to linear leaves are up to 30mm (1?in) wide and have along acuminate apex. The base is a tubular closed sheath and the leaf upper surface is partially concave.

Flower: The small yellow tubulate flowers have 3-corolla lobes that curve outwards and are arranged in a cylindrical spike with bright red bracts up to 30mm (1?in) wide and 200mm (7µin) long. The spike is terminal on a leafless scape that tends to be close to the ground and appears during early summer.

Fruit: The small capsule contains tint seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
