Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green leaves are elliptical to oblanceolate with an acute apex and a petiole to 12mm (½in) long. The leathery textured leaf surface is covered in a silvery down and the underside is paler green. It has obvious parallel veins that are arranged horizontally from the mid rib.

Flower: The small salverform flowers have flattened spirally arranged pubescent rounded petals. The calyx and the outside of the corolla tube is also pubescent and the pedicle is short. The flowers are arranged in crowded axillary cymes and appear from spring to autumn.

Fruit: The long pendant curved-stringy follicle is up to 4mm (?in) diameter and appear in dense clusters on a short stalk. The seeds are ciliate and attached at the centre. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
The flowering and fruiting period may vary in tropical regions.
