Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate in cool climates.
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer and placed on a misting bench.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are elliptical-ovate to lanceolate or oblong and have an acute apex. The reddish petiole is short or absent and the underside of the leaf is glabrous.
Flower: The rotate flowers have 5 leaf-like sepals and 5-reflexed petals (not cupped) with a central boss of stamens in bundles of five and 5-styles. There are up to 11 blooms arranged in a terminal cyme that appears from summer to autumn and are very showy.
Fruit: The conical capsule is bright red and has 3 to 5-valves that dehisce along the septa releasing wingless seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
