Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are oblong to broad lanceolate with a long acuminate apex and a cuneate base with a short flat petiole. The upper surface has a glossy quilted appearance with pinnate venation and the underside and margin are covered in fine silky hairs.
Flower: The tubular is 2-lipped flowers have long lower lip and exserted stamens. The corolla is covered in silky hairs and tapers towards the broad elliptical orange-red bract. The spike is up to 240mm (8in) tall and appear solitary or in small clusters during early summer.
Fruit: The small capsule contains 4-seeds thatare viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively. The flowering and fruiting period may vary in tropical regions.
