Botanic information
Leaf: The leathery glossy dark green leaves are ovate to oblong with an acute to acuminate apex and are decurrent on the light green long petiole. The leaves are crowded towards the end of the stems.

Flower: The saccate flowers sepals form a distinctive hooked spur to 12mm (½in) long that changes colour along its length from yellow to red. The up-turned standard is greenish. They are solitary or arranged in clusters of 2 to 8 appearing in the leaf axils from spring to summer with a pedicle up to 50mm (2in) long.

Fruit: The slender ovoid 5-ribbed capsule explodes (dehiscent) when ripe to scatter the seeds. These seeds are very viable and the plant self-sows easily.
