Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves have 8 to 12 oblong-ovate glossy green leaflets and a petiole to 76mm (3in) long. The glaborous leaflets are up to 127mm (5in) long by 50mm (2in) wide with a petiole to 6mm (¥in) long and an acuminate apex.
The underside is pale green and the undulating margins are deeply irregularly serrated or entire. The new growth is bronze-pink and the branchlets are covered in felt-like pubescence.
Flower: The tiny red to cream apetalous flowers have a pubescent calyx with 5-pointed teeth that form a cup-shape. There are 6 to 8-stamens with deep red anthers and a short style with a 2-3 lobed stigma. They are arranged in an open branched panicle from spring to early summer.
Fruit: The brown woody capsule can take up to 1-year to mature and opens to reveal a glossy black seed half nestled in a fleshy red cup-like aril.
