Botanic information
Leaf: The bright green leaves are obovate to broad obcordate with a thin leathery texture and the apex is lobed. They are arranged in groups of 2 to 3 on a short lateral branchlet and have a short slender petiole. The underside is dull green and the leaves appear sparsely on the plant.
Flower: The tiny female stellate flowers have green-white to pinkish tepals and are arranged in axillary fascicles. The male and female flowers appear on different plants (dioecious) during spring.
Fruit: The fruit is an angular glossy black nut-like achene that is enclosed in the perianth and the seeds have abundant endosperm. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
