Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 18º to 21º C. (64º to 75º F).
Semi-hardwood tip cuttings taken during summer apply bottom heat.
Air layering during spring.
Culture
It requires ample moisture during summer and prefers its roots to be in a moist shaded position.
Botanic information
Leaf: The pinnate leaves have 3 to 5 oblong to ovate leaflets that are up to 70mm (2? in) long with an abruptly acuminate apex. The terminal leaflet is slightly larger and the upper surface has depressed pinnate veins and the petiole is up to 50mm (2in) long.
Flower: The funnelform flowers have a purplish toothed calyx and the petals are deep pink to purple and open with 5-lobes that are suffused in creamy-white. The inside is also whitish with pink veins. There are up to 24-blooms arranged in the raceme that is up to 300mm (1ft) long. The inflorescence appears on older mature leafless stems during early summer.
Fruit: The small bi-valve follicle contains many thin winged seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.The flowering and fruiting period may vary in tropical regions.
