Botanic information
Leaf: The broad arching linear leaves are up to 65mm (2½in) wide and droop or twist towards the long acuminate apex. The upper surface is yellowish-green and the underside is pale green. The leaves are arranged in a fan-like Patten at the base and the leaf is not as stiff as in Phormium tenax.

Flower: The bisexual tubulate flowers have 6-spreading segments with recurved tips. They are arranged in an upright panicle that is held above the foliage on a dark glabrous leafless scape to 2m (6ft) tall and up to 30mm (1?in) in diameter. They appear during early summer.

Fruit: The long pendant terete capsule is spirally twisted and contains numerous dark seeds that are viable but the cultivars are normally reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
