Propagation
Surface sow fresh seed during spring in a well-drained media, and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F). Prick out and pot up when they are large enough to handle.
Note:
Care should be taken when planting this tree in your garden as the roots are strong and may damage pipes or lift concrete and ample room is required as the trunk grows to 3m (10ft) wide.
Botanic information
Leaf: The bluish green juvenile leaves are orbicular to ovate up to 250mm (9µ in)long by 100mm (4 in) wide with a a short petiole. The concolorous glossy green adult leaves are lanceolate to falcate 180mm long by 30mm (1? in)wide. The apex is long acuminate and the petiole is up to 40mm long.
Flower: The sessile grey-green to yellowish clavate buds are up to 4mm (? in)wide and arranged in clusters of 7 to 15 with a terete peduncle. The opercula is hemispherical often with a pointed apex which when discarded reveal numerous exserted white stamen. They appear during midsummer.
Fruit: The barrel shaped or hemispherical woody capsule is up to 12mm (½in)wide with medium broad disc that is level to slightly descending. It has 3-5 valves that are enclosed and when opened release numerous tiny seeds.
General pruning information
Eucalyptusspecies require little pruning apart from removal of damaged or dead wood, which should be taken off at the collar. If the tree is cut back hard it will produce epicormic shoots and the crown may be lifted or thinned by removal of selected branches.
