Botanic information
Leaf: The glabrous leathery leaves are dark glossy green above with a deep cordate base and are reddish with prominent venation on the underside. The slender petiole is up to 2m (6ft) long and the margins tend to be undulate.

Flower: The semi-double stellate flowers have 4-greenish sepals and the expanded pale pink petals have golden yellow stamens. They appear just above the water during early summer.

Fruit: The small spongy berry-like capsule matures under water and breaks open when ripe. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
