Propagation
Sow fresh seeds and place in a cold frame until germination occurs. Prick out and pot up into a well drained media. When planting out space the seedlings and 38 mm (15 in) apart.
Division of the rhizome from autumn to late winter.
Botanic information
Leaf: The basal pinnate leaves have 3-leaflets with a very large terminal leaflet up to 100mm (4in) wide and is cordate-reniform. They have irregular serrated margins and the petiole is short. There are a few stem leaves that are smaller.
Flower: The bisexual campanulate flowers have 5-burgandy sepals and 5-broad yellow petals and numerous showy stamens that are massed in the centre. The pedicle is long and slender covered in fine hairs and the nodding flowers are arranged in an open corymb that is held above the foliage from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The reddish-brown achene has a persistent style and the small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
