Botanic information
Leaf: The light green pinnate leaves have 7 to 9 leaflets that in turn are divided 2 to 3 times with linear to lanceolate segments. When young the leaves are densely silky pubescent and appear after the flowers.
Flower: The nodding campanulate flowers have 6-pointed petals and sepals that are densely silky pubescent on the underside. The flower colour is deep to pale purple with a cluster of yellow stamens in the centre. The flowers appear solitary above the foliage on a greyish pubescent scape with linear involucral leaves that are up to 25mm (1in) long during spring.
Fruit: The fruit is an achene with long reddish brown plumose styles. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
