Propagation
Sow seeds when ripe and place in a cold frame to germinate. Prick out and pot up when large enough to handle.
Division of the rhizome during spring or autumn.
Botanic information
Leaf: The ovate to oblong leaves are covered in fine white hairs and have and acuminate apex. The reddish tinged margin is a deeply serrated and the reddish-green petiole is up to 30 mm (1? in) long. The mid green upper surface has a quilted appearance on the underside is pale green.
Flower: The solitary radiate flower head is held above the foliage on a densely pubescent scape that appears from the leaf axils. The flower has numerous tubular disk florets and 5-spreading ray florets and the flowers appear from spring to midsummer.
Fruit: The small 4-angled achenes are obovate and have a short pappus on the crown. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
