Propagation
Surface sow fresh seeds during autumn in flats and maintain a temperature of 5°C (41°F) for 6 to 10 weeks. Keep moist, not wet and place in indirect light.
Seed germination is sporadic and should be picked out when large enough to handle and space the plants 300 mm (1 ft) apart when planting out.
Division of rooted stems during spring.
Botanic information
Leaf: The basal spathulate leaves are up to 10 mm (? in)wide towards the acute apex and are densely white pubescent on the underside. They are arranged in a rosette and the linear to lanceolate stem leaves are similar and are arranged spirally up the flowering stem.
Flower: The flower-head has pale pink ray florets and tiny darker pink disk florets. They are arranged in a terminal corymb on upright or decumbent stem and appear from late spring to early summer.
Note
The white female flowers are tubulate and the male flowers are funnelform appear on smaller plants (dioecious). Plants are maybe all female or mixed with male or can be just male (this is rare) and female populations can reproduced without fertilisation (parthenogenetically).
Fruit: The dry flower-head contains numerous achenes with up to 1,000 per gram. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
