Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Take semi-hardwood tip cuttings during summer apply bottom heat.


Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green oblong-elliptical to oblong-obovate leaves are up to 50mm (2in) wide and have an abrupt acute apex. The reddish petiole is up to 35mm (1? in) long and the underside of the leaf is yellowish-green. The small reddish glaborous buds have imbricate scales and the young foliage is slightly aromatic when crushed.

Flower: The male and female flower buds are glossy red and open to creamy white stellate flowers that have 4-minute sepals and 4-narrow oblong petals and have stamens up to 4mm (? in) long. They appear in an upright terminal cyme that is 76mm (3in) long by 50mm (2in) wide with reddish pedicles and peduncle during early spring.
Note:
The male flowers are larger and more fragrant than the female and are the commonly cultivated plant.

Fruit: The globose red drupe is produced only on the female plants and appears in a terminal panicle during autumn and persists on the plant until spring. The small seeds are viable but the plant can be reproduced vegetatively.
