Propagation
Sow seeds when ripe and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Carefully divide the rhizome in early spring, as the new growth appears.
Note:
Under optimum conditions this rhizomatous perennial can be invasive requiring control by division of the rhizome.
Botanic information
Leaf: The almost sessile glabrous leaves are elliptical oblong to ovate with an acuminate apex. The upper surface is dull dark green and the underside is pale green with a prominent whitish bowed venation. The leaves are arranged on either side of the stem distinctly pointing upwards.
Flower: The small pendant tubular flowers have 6-lobes and 6-stamens and slender green pedestal. They are whitish tipped in green and 2 to 6 flowers arranged in a pendant axillary cluster on a short peduncle and appear along the underside of the stem during late spring.
Fruit: The small pendant berries contain numerous seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
