Botanic information
Leaf: The flattened glaucous leaves have 2-white stomatic bands and a keel on the underside and there are up to 45 arranged spirally at the end of a short spur. The small pointed brown buds are oblong to conical with fringed scales.
Flower: The globose red to greenish-cream coloured female strobili has scales that show both colours and the smaller domed male strobili are green at the base and yellow when shedding pollen. They appear numerously along the branchlets in early spring and appear on the same tree (monoecious).
Fruit: The short stalked rounded female cone is up to 25mm (1in) wide. The woody keeled imbricate scales are reflexed along the margins and form a rosette appearance. The persistent cone takes 1-year to mature and each scale has 2-winged seeds.
