Botanic information
Leaf: The leathery textured leaves are oblong to narrow lanceolate up to 20mm (µin) wide. The margin is serrated towards the acuminate apex and the reddish petiole is short.
Flower: The small cyathiform flowers have 4 to 8 petals with as many stamens and appear in axillary fascicles with a short pedicle on the previous year's growth. Male and female plants must be grown together in order to produce fruit (dioecious). The flowers appear during spring but are regarded as insignificant as an ornamental feature.
Fruit: The tiny scarlet drupe appears in axillary clusters of 3 to 4, ripening early and are persistent on the plant. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
