Propagation
Sow fresh seed in spring in a prepared bed or place in an open frame to germinate.
Semi-hardwood tip cuttings taken during summer apply bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The small oblong-linear sessile leaves are up to 3mm (? in) wide with an obtuse-mucronate apex and are arranged densely along the stems. The underside has whitish stomata bands on either side of the mid rib and the margins are thickened.
Flower: The axillary solitary male catkin-like cones are yellowish and the axillary greenish female cones have 2-4 scales and a peduncle up to 3mm (?in) long.They appear on different plants (dioecious) during spring.
Fruit: The red succulent cherry-like ovoid cone is obtusely pointed. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
