Propagation
Stratify seeds and sow during spring.
Soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring and semi hardwood cuttings taken during late summer.
Botanic information
Leaf: The large leathery light green leaves are oblong to obovate up to 300mm (12in) wide, glabrous above and the underside is covered in silver-grey tomentose. The apex is obtuse and the base is sub-cordate and the petiole is up to 102mm (4in) long. The large buds are covered in tomentose.
Flower: The cyathiform flower has 6-tepals with the 3-inner marked maroon at the base and appear with the foliage during summer.
Fruit: The rose coloured ovoid follicle is composed aggregated carpels and has a cone-like appearance but is not normally usedand the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
