Botanic information
Leaf: The variable dark green leaves are crowded along the stems. In some forms the leaves are lanceolate up to 4mm (?in) wide and in other forms the leaves are terete up to 15mm (?in) long. They are sessile and normally twisted with a pungent acuminate apex.
Flower: The small tubulate flowers are composed of 3-lower spreading lobes and a broader upper lobe that forms a hood. The sessile calyx tube is pubescent and the flowers are arranged densely in a terminal cluster that appears during spring.
Fruit: The tiny nuts are covered in fine pubescence and the small seeds are viable but may be difficult to germinate so the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
