Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment).
Botanic information
Leaf: The phyllodes are linear to narrow lanceolate up to 10mm (?in) long and variable in length. The apex is long acuminate and the base tapers to a short green petiole. The texture is leathery with longitudinal nerves on the dull green upper surface.
Flower: The profuse pale-yellow tubulate flowers consist of numerous stamens and appear in a pendant spike that is up to 80mm (3?in) long. They appear in the leaf axils along the branchlets from late winter to early spring.
Fruit: The slender almost straight pointed pod is up to 4mm (?in) wide and is constricted between the seeds. The oblong seeds are black up to 4mm (?in) long and are arranged longitudinally along the pod. It has a folded stalk that ends in a cup-like aril.
Pruning
Tolerates a light prune after flowering back to a node, remove any dead wood back to the collar. If there is insufficient light towards the base of the tree prune the crown to allow the light in. The plants tend to be easily damaged by wind or borers, and damaged material should be removed.
