Propagation
Stratify seeds for 2 to 3 months during winter in peat and sow seeds in pots then place them in a cold frame. Germination can take up to 18 months.
Soft tip or semi hardwood cuttings from summer to autumn.
Air layering during the growing period.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are ovate to oblong-elliptical with an acute apex and a cuneate base. The grey-green underside is silky pubescent and the petiole is up to 12mm (½in) long. During autumn the leaves turn orange-red before falling.
Flower: The solitary bisexual cyathiform flower has 5 to 6 persistent petals and yellow stamens with orange anthers. It is accompanied by large leaf-like bracts and appears in the leaf axils during early summer.
Fruit: The small woody capsule is dehiscent from the apex and contains wingless seeds thatare viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
