Propagation
Stratify seeds for 2 to 3 months during winter and sow seeds in pots then place them in a cold frame.
Collect seeds before the fruit turns brown and sow into a prepared bed. Seeds may or may not require a cold period.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leathery glossy dark green leaves are narrow elliptical to ovate with an acute apex and a short petiole. The underside is dull green and the leaf has curved pinnate venation.
Flower: The pendant yellow-brown male catkins are up to 80mm (3 in) long and appear in a cluster of 4-8 before the leaves during early spring and the female strobili are globose.
Fruit: The woody cone-like fruit is ovoid with 5-lobed scales and contains winged nutlets. They are arranged in small clusters on a short stalk.
