Propagation
Sow seeds when ripe in pots and place in a cold frame or a prepared bed to germinate. Germination can take up to 2-years.
Semi-hardwood tip cuttings taken during late summer apply bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The flattened glossy dark green leaves are linear to lanceolate and taper to a hard spiny apex. The underside has 2-glaucous bands and they are arranged in oppositely in 2-ranks on the same plane. When crushed the leaves are highly aromatic.
Flower: The male cones and female strobili appear in the leaf axils on the upper side of the branchlets on different trees (dioecious) during late winter.
Fruit: The olive green cone produces an ellipsoid-oblong drupe-like seed that is covered in a fleshy aril. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
