Propagation
Collect and remove pulp from the seeds then wash. Seeds (nutlets) that float should be discarded and when sowing place in well drained media and maintain a temperature of 18º to 21º C. (64º to 75º F). Certain seeds germinate quickly while others take up to 18 months.
Semi-hardwood cuttings taken during late summer to autumn.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leathery glossy dark green leaves are oblong to elliptical up to 76mm (3in) wide and the margin has small shape black teeth. It has a short thickish petiole and the apex is acute.
Flower: The small yellow cyathiform flowers have 4-petals with as many stamens and appear in axillary panicle with a short pedicle on the previous year's growth. Male and female plants must be grown together in order to produce fruit. The flowers appear during spring and are regarded as insignificant as an ornamental feature.
Fruit: The orange-red drupe contains 4 to 6 pyrenes and are arranged in dense axillary clusters. The persistent fruit fades to dull red and the seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
