Propagation
Prepare the seed by removing the outer fleshy layer and pre soak the seeds for 24 hours prior to sowing in spring in a sandy mix with perlite and pot up into deep pots maintaining 20º to 30ºC (68º - 86ºF) temperature.
Remove offsets during spring but transplanting may be difficult.

Note:
In cold climates this cycad is grown in a conservatory or glasshouse and is planted in deep pots with equal parts of loam and coarse sand with some granulated bark and the addition of slow-release fertiliser. It should be placed in a bright filtered light, humid position and watered regularly during summer.

Botanic information
Leaf: The mid-green pinnate leaves have 13 to 30 pairs of linear to lanceolate or oblong leathery textured leaflets that are up to 250mm (9µ in) long by 20mm (µ in) wide. The margins are serrated in the upper half with 10-15 teeth and the acute apex is deeply cleft. The long petiole is spiny and there are up to 15-leaves are arranged in a rosette.

Flower: The small cylindrical male cones are up to 200mm (4 in) long and often appear in clusters. The elongated-ovoid female cones are cylindrical up to127mm (5 in) long and are covered in brownish-green hexangular scales. They appear on a short thickish pubescent scape during summer on a different plant to the male (dioecious).

Fruit: The reddish felt-like female cone has an acuminate apex and contains ovoid orange-red seeds thatare viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
