Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in a well-drained media, and keep warm. Seeds may be difficult to germinate.
Semi-hardwood cuttings taken during early summer and apply bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The oblong to elliptical, leaves are up to 70 mm (2? in) wide with undulating margins that may be finally toothed and the apex is acute. They may be arranged oppositely or more commonly in a whorl of three with a purplish petiole up to 38 mm (1½in) long. The upper surface is glossy dark green and the underside is dull green.
Flower: The tiny creamy-white tubulate flowers have 4-petals and sepals with protruding stamens. They are arranged in a large branched cymose panicle that is terminal or axillary, appearing towards the end of the branches during summer.
Fruit: The ovoid glabrous capsule protrudes slightly from the persistent calyx and opens with 4-lobes and contains numerous tiny seeds. The seeds are dispersed by wind or on the bodies of birds and are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
