Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment).
Semi hardwood cuttings taken in spring or autumn and apply bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The variable dark green leaves are bipinnate to bipinnatisect up to 35 mm (1? in) long with 3-7 primary stiff linear lobes that are up to 17 mm (? in) long and have a pungent apex. The upper surface is almost glabrous and the underside is concealed by the revolute margins and the raised midvein is prominent.
Flower: The tubular flowers have a pedestal up to 4 mm (? in)long and the oblong-ovoid orange-red perianth segments are up to 10 mm (? in) long by 3 mm (? in) wide. It has a protruding red style to 27 mm (1 in) long and the oblique pollen presenter is elliptical. The flowers are arranged in an a one-sided nodding terminal raceme that is up to 65 mm (2½ in) long and are accompanied by tiny ovate bracts. The flowers appear from winter to spring and sporadically throughout the year under cultivation and are pollinated by birds.
Fruit: The oblong-ellipsoidal follicle is up to 12 mm (½ in) wide by 8 mm (? in) wide with a slightly pubescent reddish-brown pericarp. The small oblong seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
