Botanic information
Leaf: The leathery dark green broad-linear leaves have a depressed mid-vein on the upper surface and strongly recurved margins. The apex is obtuse and the petiole is very small. They are arranged oppositely or in whorls of three along the stems with bracts.
Flower: The pale mauve cyathiform flowers have a long reddish pedestal and 5-expanding ovate pointed calyx lobes each with 3-ribs. The petals are insignificant and up to 5-pendant blooms are arranged in a one-sided axillary raceme that appears from winter to spring.
Fruit: The small woody capsule is a dehiscent releasing tiny seeds that are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
