Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green bipinnate leaves are divided 1 to 3 times with short terete (needle-like) stiff segments (leaflets).

Flower: The long pink sessile tubulate flowers are up to 25mm (1in) long with 4-spreading lobes and an exserted yellow style. They arranged in a dense rounded terminal spike (globular head) up to 60mm (2?in) wide with a central hard cone up to 30mm (1?in) wide. They appear from late winter to spring.

Fruit: The small nut-like achene is covered in silky hairs and enclosed in persistent bracts that are shed when ripe. The seeds are viable but germinate slowly and the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
