Botanic information
Leaf: The small leathery dull green leaves are broad-elliptical with a mucronate apex and a short reddish petiole. They are arranged oppositely to spirally densely along the reddish stems.
Flower: The small pubescent tubulate flowers are cylindrical in bud and split open with 4-recurved segments forming a star-shape with 4-protuding curled stamens. The pedicle is up to 8mm (?in) long and the flowers are arranged in the leaf axils at the end of the branches, appearing during autumn.
Fruit: The berry-like oval green to reddish drupe has a fleshy exocarp with their persistent style. The small seeds are viable but may be difficult to germinate and the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
