Sow fresh seed during spring and placed in a protected environment during germination.
Semi-hardwood cuttings taken during the growing period.
Note:
The light timber is used in wood turning or for the manufacture of plywood and stains easily in but is not durable. The bark has an offensive odour and becomes rough and corky in old trees.
Botanic information
Leaf: The discolorous glossy dark green leaves are ovate to elliptical with an obtuse to acuminate apex and are up to 80 mm (3? in)wide. The petiole is up to 20 mm (µ in) long and the margins are serrated or entire. The new growth is reddish and the small stipules glabrous.
Flower: The small stellate flowers have a lobed calyx with petals that are pubescent that the apex and the shorter petals are serrated all lobed. Each flower contains 8-10 stamens and 2-styles. They are arranged in an axillary cyme up to 70 mm (2? in) wide and appear during spring.
Fruit: The ovoid to globular drupe has a wind fleshy exocarp with a sharp acidic flavour and contains 2-cells each with a single seed. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
