Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 19º to 24º C. (66º to 77º F).
Botanic information
Leaf: The juvenile leaves are linear and appear in whorls of 3-4, turning yellowish in cool weather and have a pungent, acute apex. The adult leaves are scale-like up to 6mm (¥ in) long and are arranged alternatively in whorls of 3-4 on angular branchlets.
Flower: This tree is monoecious with the male catkin-like cones appearing towards the end of the twigs and the globose female cones are pendant on the short lateral branches. They appear from late winter to early spring.
Fruit: The dark brown cones are oval or pyramid shaped with a pointed tip and is long lived. They have 6-8 valves that reflex when opened and release red-brown winged seeds.
