Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment).
Cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring to early summer.
Pruning
Tolerates a light prune after flowering back to a node, remove any dead wood back to the collar. If there is insufficient light towards the base of the tree prune the crown to allow the light in. The plants tend to be easily damaged by wind or borers, and damaged material should be removed.
Botanic information
Leaf: The sessile dull green phyllodes are ovate to lanceolate with an obvious off-centred mid vein. The apex is sharply acuminate and the leaf texture is soft leathery.
Flower: The tiny bisexual tubulate flowers have 4 to 5 inconspicuous sepals and petals. The stamens are prominentand the flowers are arranged in solitary cluster to 6mm (¥in) wide on a pedicle up to 9mm (?in) long in the leaf axils at the end of the branchlets.They appear from winter to early spring.
Fruit: The curved pod is up to 4mm (?in) wide and contains hard coated dark seeds. The plant regenerates from seed after fire.
