Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 19º to 24º C.
Division of the clump (rhizome) during spring.

Culture
All plants in this genus require abundant moisture and rich humus rich soil. They tolerate some cooler weather but prefer a humid warm environment.


Botanic information
Leaf: The large mid green oblong leaves are thin textured with a prominent mid rib up to 300mm (1`ft) wide and have a short petiole. The leaf tends to arch and the leaf blade is torn easily in to segments by strong wind.

Flower: The small greenish-yellow tubulate flowers have 3-sepals and 3-petals. They are enclosed in a red bract that is up to 60mm (2?in) long withyellowish tips and green margins. There are up to 30 bracts arranged in 2-ranks on a pendant spike that is up to 600mm (2ft) long and appears during early summer but the flowering period in tropical regions can vary throughout the year.

Fruit: The small globular, berry-like capsule contains 1 to 3 seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
