Botanic information
Leaf: The leathery glossy dark green elliptical leaves are up to 80mm (3µin) wide with white pinnate venation on the upper surface. The underside is pale-green with small oil-dots visible. It has a petiole is short, acute to acuminate apex and the margins are slightly undulating. The leaf is arranged spirally or alternately.
Flower: There are 5 to 7 small apetalous male and female flowers that are covered densely grey tomentose and arranged in an axillary umbel towards the end of the branches. The male flowers have no tepals but have accompanying bracts that inclose the stamens. They appear during early summer.
Fruit: The smooth globular berry is reddish-brown when mature with a thin endocarp and a fleshy mesocarp. It contains a single seed that is viable but may be difficult or slow to germinate so the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
