Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Apply bottom heat. Germination is normally quick, pot up and place in protected sunny position. Seeds are released after fire.

Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are oblanceolate to linear, up to 25mm (1in) wide and the upper surface has 3 or more longitudinal veins.

Flower: The tiny tubulate flowers have segments that are rolled back towards one side with a protruding style. The flowers are arranged in an axillary cluster towards the end of the branches and appear from spring to summer.

Fruit: The smooth globose follicle has a short straight beak. The fruit splits in half to release 2-winged seeds.


General pruning information
These plants tolerate a light prune to a node normally after flowering. Do not prune into old wood as it will not regenerate and if the plant has become leggy and woody it will not regenerate after a hard prune. It requires replacement.
