Propagation
Surface sow fresh seed during spring in a well-drained media, and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F). Prick out and pot up when they are large enough to handle.

Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green long linear leaves have a thin texture with rough margins. The veins are parallel and the apex is acuminate. Care should be taken as leaves can cut skin when handled.

Flower: The spikelets are up to 8mm (?in) long with 10 to 12 blackish pointed-glumes. Lower glumes contain a male flowers or are sterile and the upper have a bisexual flowers with 4-stamens. They are arranged in a compound panicle held above the foliage and appears form late winter to midsummer.

Fruit: The small nut is red brown with an obtuse apex. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
