Propagation
Seeds require scarification by nicking the seed coat and soaking in water for 24 hours prior to sowing.
Semi-hardwood cuttings of non-flowering shoots during spring or autumn and placed on a misting bench.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green bipinnate leaves are up to 50mm (2in) wide with an ovate outline and consists linear to triangular lobes to 25mm (1in) long that are again divided with a pungent apex. The petiole is short and the new growth has bronze colouring.
The upper surface is glabrous when mature and the underside is slightly tomentose.
Flower: The red-brown tubulate flowers have a short peduncle and perianth segments to 6mm (¥in) that are covered in brownish tomentose. The incurved style is up to 12mm (½in) long and the flowers are arranged in a slightly pendant one-sided terminal raceme that appears from spring to early summer.
Fruit: The elliptical follicle is up to 6mm (¥in) wide with a hairy pericarp. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively and grafted onto a rootstock. The plant regenerates from seed after fire.
