Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Root cuttings taken during winter or cuttings of the new shoots during spring.
Division of the clump during early spring.
Botanic information
Leaf: The large hairy basal leaves are cordate to broad ovate with an acute apex and have conspicuous anastomosing veins. The base is cordate and the petiole is long. The stem leaves are lanceolate to ovate, sessile or with a short petiole.
Flower: The small bright blue rotate flowers have 5-petals and a long pedicel. They are arranged in a cyme-like terminal panicle that is up to 200mm (8in) long and appears during spring.
Fruit: The tiny 4-parted nutlets are not commonly used and the plant is normally propagated by division.
