Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment).
Soft tip or semi hardwood cuttings from summer to autumn.
Botanic information
Leaf: The grey-green leaves are ovate to oblong with a short petiole and lobe-like serrations that are sharply pointed. The texture is leathery with the upper surface glabrous and the underside may have silky pubescence.
Flower: The tubulate flowers have a pedicle up to 4mm (?in) long and the oblong perianth segments are strongly curvedwith a style up to 9mm (?in) long. They are arranged in a terminal or axillary one sided raceme that is up to 40mm (1½in) long. The flowers appear from late winter to early spring and are insect pollinated.
Fruit: The ovoid follicle is up to 12mm (½in) wide with a thick wrinkled pericarp and contain oblong seeds to 9mm (?in) long with a waxy border. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
